The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fights for equity for all women and families. We’re passionate about making change on big issues such as equal pay for all women, paid leave for working families and access to affordable health care that provides abortion and reproductive care. We advocate on the Hill and for federal, state and local policy.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Development Associate to join our Development team. The Development Associate will play a key role in supporting our fundraising strategies, events, and donor engagement operations. This position is an excellent opportunity for a professional who is passionate about our mission and eager to expand skills in fundraising, donor relations, data management, and grant processes.
The Development Associate is a full-time position based in Washington, DC and reports to the Director of Institutional Relations. The National Partnership maintains a hybrid work environment and the Development Associate will be required to be in the office 2-3 days per week., with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Donor Engagement
- Conduct research on prospective individual and institutional donors, including foundations and corporations, to support the team’s fundraising goals.
- Manage donor acknowledgment processes, ensuring all gifts are acknowledged promptly and appropriately.
- Assist with donor engagement initiatives including mailings, emails, events, and meetings including preparation of materials and summaries.
- Maintain and update donor records in Salesforce and the shared drive.
Grant Support
- Assist with drafting and submitting grant proposals, applications, reports, and supporting documentation for institutional funders.
- Monitor grant deadlines and assist in ensuring timely submission of applications and reports.
- Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Relations to gather programmatic updates and outcomes to include in grant reports.
- Organize and maintain grant files on the shared drive.
- Support the reconciliation of grant payments with the Finance team.
Event Support
- Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events, including our annual gala event
Qualifications
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related field (internship experience considered).
- Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce) is preferred but not required.
- Experience in grant writing, donor research, or event support is a plus.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and comfortable with data entry and management. Familiarity with project management tools (Asana) are preferred but not required.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Commitment to women’s rights.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or related areas) or equivalent experience.
Classification
The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non- profit workers. This position is included in the NP United bargaining unit.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $62,215-$68,110 with the exact salary determined by years of relevant experience, in alignment with NPWF’s compensation setting criteria.

Probationary Period
All new employees shall serve a six (6) month probationary period beginning on their first day of work. During the probationary period, the National Partnership shall have the unlimited right to discipline or discharge the employee for reasons permissible by law, and such discipline or discharge shall not be subject to the grievance procedure.
