“Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee took an important step toward fixing our nation’s broken health care system by passing a comprehensive, meaningful reform bill. With all three House committees reporting out reform legislation, we’ve gotten closer than ever before to making our health care system work for consumers and patients. That is good news for women, families and the nation.
The House legislation brings three major improvements to our health care system. It would help make insurance more affordable for families and give them more plans to choose from. It would stop insurance companies from discriminating against people based on pre-existing conditions, gender or health status. It would improve the health care delivery system by prioritizing value over volume, reducing waste and promoting the high quality, coordinated care families need and deserve.
There is no question that the time for real health care reform is now. Nationwide, people are counting on lawmakers to pass reform so that individuals and families will have more health care choices that they can afford.
We applaud the three House committees for working long and hard to accomplish the complex and vital task of advancing this essential legislation. Their hard work puts quality, affordable health care for all within reach.”
