“The agreement announced today between New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Cigna Healthcare to improve reporting of physician performance is good for health care consumers in New York, and will set a standard for other health plans around the country. It is an important step forward.
Consumers today have very little information to help them choose doctors or understand the quality of care they receive. This agreement is an important step toward making sure that New Yorkers have meaningful information about quality and cost so they can make sound decisions about where they get their care and how they spend their health care dollars.
This agreement will promote the kind of transparency that helps consumers make wiser, more informed health care decisions. Transparency will drive badly needed improvements in the quality of our care and help eliminate waste, so we can use our precious health care dollars to expand coverage and give many more people access to the health care they need.
We especially appreciate the Attorney General’s willingness to work closely with a broad coalition of consumer, labor and employer groups in crafting a solution that is in the best interests of consumers.”
