Press Statement
Marge Roukema: A Powerhouse for Bipartisan Progress for Women

“We are deeply saddened to learn that Marge Roukema, the enormously effective, longtime congresswoman from New Jersey, has passed. Marge was a powerhouse — a tremendously effective lawmaker who knew how to bring together policymakers from both sides of the political aisle to advance programs and policies critical to women and families. It is fair to say this country would not have enacted the Family and Medical Leave Act 21 years ago if not for Marge Roukema’s remarkable work.

Marge was a true hero to women and families, and to all of us who work to make our workplaces more family friendly and fair. She cared deeply about making progress on a range of economic and health issues, and worked tirelessly to generate bipartisan support for many of them. Her legacy is a proud one.”
