Congressional Bipartisan Paid Leave Working Group Announcement a Promising Next Step for Families and Caregivers

Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December, 2023 – “Today’s announcement introducing the Senate Bipartisan Paid Leave Working Group and announcing a bicameral effort is an important step and opportunity to strengthen working families and address their caregiving challenges. We know that comprehensive paid family and medical leave enjoys enormous support in every corner of the country. In battleground states, an estimated 85 percent of voters across party lines support paid parental, family and medical leave, and we are excited to see leaders in Congress work across the aisle to shore up the economic security of our country’s workforce.

“More than 70 percent of the workforce still lack access to paid leave. While states have made important progress to provide paid leave benefits, we must keep fighting to ensure every worker has access to the supports necessary to care for themselves and their loved ones.

“We look forward to working with Congressional leaders on this issue into 2024, to ensure all workers in this country gain access to a national, comprehensive paid leave policy.”
