Press Statement
Obama Administration Action Means More Women Will Have Access to the Contraception They Need, Women & Families Will Be Healthier

“We applaud the Obama Administration for refusing to allow employers to substitute their views for those of women, and taking steps to enable millions of women to exercise their own conscience and get the contraceptive coverage they need. The Administration was right to reject efforts to broadly allow religious institutions, which employ millions of women, to refuse to provide contraceptive coverage as required by the new health reform law.

Ensuring women’s access to contraception means fewer unintended pregnancies, healthier women and stronger families. Birth control is basic health care for women.

There is an overwhelming consensus in this country that women should have coverage for contraception, and ensuring that coverage is one of the most important advances for women in the new health reform law. While we believe all women should have full coverage for birth control now and we oppose any restrictions, we are pleased with the Administration’s action today. America’s women and families will be healthier for it.”
