Small Businesses Support Paid Sick Days in Minneapolis and Across the Country

| Jan 19, 2016

Advocates and small business owners in Minneapolis are making the case for paid sick days. A new report released last week by the Main Street Alliance of Minnesota with the support of the National Partnership for Women & Families summarizes the growing body of evidence that shows paid sick days policies benefit businesses.

In conjunction with the release, Main Street Alliance of Minnesota hosted a press call featuring five supportive small business owners – three from Minneapolis; one from Jersey City, which recently expanded its paid sick days law; and one from Oregon, where a statewide paid sick days law took effect on January 1.

The impact of paid sick days on the city’s workers and businesses will be the focus of a series of community listening sessions held throughout the month and aimed at getting input from key stakeholders. Minneapolis residents can attend one of these sessions tomorrow, January 20, or January 21. Additional sessions will be held the following week. Details can be found here.

Organizations are also encouraged to mobilize their supporters to participate in the sessions and campaign. Contact Corinne Horowitz of the Main Street Alliance of Minnesota for more information.
