“The House of Representatives is wasting time and making a mockery of the legislative process by voting this afternoon, for the 37th time, to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This law is doing enormous good for the nation, strengthening our health care system, and improving women’s health. It is making essential preventive services available to women, outlawing gender discrimination in pricing, improving care coordination, and much more.

Yet House leaders continue to waste time and resources with symbolic repeal votes that will have no impact. The nation needs stronger policies, not partisan posturing.

It is absurd that the House votes to repeal health care reform over and over, while critically important legislation on paid sick days, wage discrimination and other issues languish, and while essential safety net programs like Medicare and Medicaid remain on the chopping block.

It is not hard to understand why Americans are so cynical about Congress when you consider today’s repeal vote, and last week’s travesty when the House passed the badly misnamed Working Families Flexibility Act, which would have caused grave harm to the nation’s workers. House leaders should abandon the pageantry and instead turn their attention to putting in place policies that will improve the nation’s health, secure women’s access to reproductive health care, and make our workplaces more fair and family friendly.”
