“On the heels of a midterm election where women ran for office and won in unprecedented numbers, the Trump administration yesterday issued multiple discriminatory rules designed to block reproductive health care for women. The two birth control rules issued fundamentally undermine the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) guarantee of birth control with no out-of-pocket costs, by allowing virtually any employer to deny women this critical benefit. The administration similarly released a proposed rule designed to prevent insurance plans from providing abortion coverage. These rules are a direct and damaging attack on women’s health and economic security that deny us the freedom to make our own reproductive health care decisions.
That’s why it’s more important than ever that newly elected leaders work to strengthen health care protections and provide a backstop to this administration’s efforts to roll-back abortion and contraception coverage for women everywhere.”
