“The proposal the White House released today is an important step on the road to meaningful health insurance reform. This proposal, coupled with the bill the Senate passed, would do a lot to fix our nation’s broken health care system by covering 31 million more people; prohibiting insurance practices that undermine meaningful, affordable coverage; helping to contain costs; and putting us on track to improve the quality and coordination of care.
This package offers some modest improvements over the bill passed by the Senate by making coverage more affordable and strengthening consumer protections. It also maintains urgently needed changes to the way we pay for and deliver health care that would promote patient-centered, quality care, while reining in costs.
We have come a long way in this debate, and are approaching the final leg. America needs to reform its health system to expand coverage, contain costs and improve the quality and coordination of care. We ask lawmakers to get this done by passing reform that translates into affordable, comprehensive, quality health care for every woman and family.”
