Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 28, 2024 – Today, the Supreme Court upended sound, longstanding, legal precedent that has provided protections for everyday people for decades...
“The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act, introduced in the House of Representatives today, would help ensure that all women have health coverage for abortion, regardless of their income or the source of their insurance.
We applaud Rep. Barbara Lee (D–Calif.), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D–Ill.) and Rep. Diana DeGette (D–Colo.) for introducing and championing this urgently needed legislation. If enacted, this bill would restore abortion coverage for women enrolled in Medicaid and other government-managed health insurance programs, currently prohibited by the Hyde amendment and similar callous anti-choice restrictions. The EACH Woman Act also would put an end to laws that keep health insurers in the private marketplace from covering abortion care, removing unnecessary barriers to the full range of reproductive health care services.
As anti-choice lawmakers across the country continue their unprecedented attacks on women’s health, it is more important than ever that Congress take action to protect access to comprehensive reproductive health care for all women. We strongly urge the House of Representative to pass this critical bill and stop interfering with a woman’s ability to make her own personal health care decisions.”
