“Today, the nation’s largest health care philanthropy, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), has publicly affirmed its support for abortion rights and access. Richard Besser, MD, RWJF’s president, and CEO, issued a clarion call for quality and affordable abortion care as a fundamental right.
We couldn’t agree more. This position reflects the thinking and values of the majority in our nation. For far too long, anti-abortion politicians have slowly but significantly carved away our rights to abortion access. Today, abortion care is effectively out of reach for too many, rendering this right meaningless for them, especially young people, people of color, low-income people, and people from other communities marginalized by structural inequities.
The National Partnership is proud to stand with RWJF in asserting that everyone has the right to decide whether, when, and how to become a parent, and that protecting this right is foundational to achieving both economic justice and health equity. The Foundation’s stance on abortion access is especially significant as advocates delivered oral arguments before the Supreme Court today on whether they have the right to challenge restrictions in Texas that would ban abortions as early as 6 weeks, before most people know they are pregnant.”
