NPWF Statement on Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s Announcement of Her Retirement in 2027

Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 6, 2025 – “Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been a groundbreaking, transformative leader whose vision, tenacity, dogged determination, and tireless work over decades has fundamentally changed the policy landscape to improve the lives of people and communities across the nation.

“As a lifelong leader in Congress, she has used her platform to prioritize and advance key policies, in particular, in support of women’s rights, women’s health, women’s economic security, and women’s progress. Her service as the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives is marked by her skills as an expert strategist and her unprecedented success in unifying her caucus to take decisive action, both proactively and defensively to beat back many of the regressive policies of the first Trump administration.

“Throughout her career she has stood up for those who live at the margins and her work has been driven by creating real change for people who make this country run. Her leadership will be sorely missed, but she leaves a lasting legacy for other elected officials to continue on in her stead. We at the National Partnership are honored to have worked with her on critical workplace and family policies such as paid family leave, pregnancy discrimination, paid sick days, fair wages for women and so many more. We look forward to continuing to work with her to make change until her last day in office.”
