Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families
New analysis shows the number of federal workers in each state here.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 27, 2025 – “In the ongoing hostile takeover and weakening of our federal government, unelected billionaire Elon Musk and his unsanctioned DOGE office — with the full endorsement of President Trump — continue to implement a plank of Project 2025 intended to make it harder to expand opportunity for women by attempting to eliminate large swaths of federal workers who provide critical services to the American people. All of these efforts are part of a larger scheme not only to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy, but also to avoid accountability for those who break the law.
“We know that Americans rely on, and respect the services federal workers provide. Benefits like Social Security, providing health insurance and keeping our National Parks open are severely at-risk due to these haphazard cuts.
“Musk’s effort to slash staff at the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) is especially alarming and a major conflict of interest. OFCCP helps ensure fairness and equity in our government contracting process and upholds the rights of the 1 in 5 American workers who are employed by a federal contractor, such as ensuring women workers are paid fairly. The fact that Musk, who receives government contracts to the tune of $38 billion, is hamstringing OFCCP, a critical watchdog agency, is the equivalent of the fox guarding the henhouse.
“Americans will not allow our government to be dismantled in service to billionaires. We, along with the broader civil rights and social justice community, will continue to fight to ensure that the super wealthy do not destroy the democracy that we have all worked so hard to uphold.
