Texas Lawmakers Pass Bill That Curbs Mailing of Abortion Pills Into the State

CBS News, September 4, 2025

The Texas state Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would allow private citizens to sue physicians and distributors who mail abortion pills into the state. The measure now goes to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is expected to sign it into law. The legislation, which was approved with an 18-9 vote, also prohibits the manufacturing of abortion drugs in Texas. It would be the first law of its kind in the country and is part of the ongoing effort by abortion foes to fight the broad use of the pills, which women turn to for the majority of abortions in the U.S. The measure includes manufacturers, digital networks and delivery companies among those who could be sued.

Trump Admin Agrees To Restore Public Health Webpages

Axios, September 2, 2025

Federal LGBTQ and reproductive health webpages taken down by the Trump administration will be restored online following a litigation settlement between the US Department of Health and Human Services and several public health organizations. “This is a clear win for evidence,” Aaron Carroll, president and CEO of AcademyHealth, said in a Tuesday statement announcing the settlement. Public health data access “saves lives as it helps clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and communities make better decisions. Restoring these webpages brings critical guidance and data back within reach,” Carroll said.

Do State Referendums on Abortion Work?

The New Yorker, September 1, 2025

It was not until February that a Kansas City judge temporarily struck most state regulations targeted at abortion providers, even as she allowed several others to remain, such as the condition that clinics fulfill the standards for ambulatory surgical centers. Three Planned Parenthood clinics began administering abortion care, but the government appealed, and the state Supreme Court halted abortions in May. The case has gone back and forth, with the judge ruling anew in July that surgical abortions can take place, for now at least, and the state, again, filing an appeal … Most troubling to abortion-rights proponents: Republicans in the Missouri legislature decided to place a new constitutional amendment on next year’s ballot which would severely restrict abortion all over again.

Maine Clinics Say They’ll Have To Cut Services After Court Rules Trump Admin Can Deny Medicaid Funding

ABC News, August 28, 2025

One of Maine’s largest abortion care providers said it will have to dramatically cut services after a federal judge ruled earlier this week that the Trump administration is not required to restore Medicaid funding. The Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) sued the Trump administration on behalf of Maine Family Planning – the largest network of sexual and reproductive health care clinics in the state – arguing that the provision violates the Equal Protection clause under the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. However, Judge Lance Walker ruled that because Roe v. Wade was overruled in June 2022, ending the constitutional right to abortion, Congress can “withhold federal funds and otherwise disassociate from conduct that is not enshrined.”

Missouri Judge Weighing Whether New Abortion Ban Should Appear on 2026 Ballot

Missouri Independent, August 27, 2025

A Cole County judge heard arguments Wednesday over whether a proposed ban on abortion set to go to voters next year should be thrown out or revised over a provision targeting gender-affirming care for minors … If the courts decide to keep the measure on the ballot, plaintiffs are asking that the ballot summary be revised to explicitly state that the measure would ban abortion. If approved by a simple majority of voters, the abortion ban amendment would repeal a citizen-led reproductive rights amendment that passed last November legalizing abortion in Missouri up until the point of fetal viability and enshrining other reproductive rights in the constitution, including in-vitro fertilization and contraceptives.
