Hundreds of U.S. Women Charged With Pregnancy-Related Crimes Since Fall of Roe

The Guardian, September 30, 2025

In the first two years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, prosecutors in 16 states charged more than 400 people with pregnancy-related crimes, new research released on Tuesday found. Of the 412 cases tracked by Pregnancy Justice, the vast majority took place in the U.S. south, targeted low-income women and involved allegations that women broke laws against child abuse, endangerment or neglect, according to the research, which was compiled by the reproductive justice group. After Years of Increases, Abortion Trends Are Shifting in States Without Bans

CNN, September 30, 2025

The number of abortions provided by clinicians in the United States has declined this year as the effects of new restrictions bear out and it becomes more common to manage an abortion outside the formal health care system, a new report suggests … “These trends likely reflect the impact of recent abortion restrictions, the expanding availability of medication abortion via shield law provision in states with total bans, the increasing hardship posed by travel for abortion care and growing strains on the abortion funds and support networks that help enable out-of-state travel for care,” the Guttmacher researchers wrote.

Wade in 2022 and allowed enforcement. It represents an additional front in a growing legal battle between liberal and conservative states over prescribing abortion medications via telehealth and mailing them to patients.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is not scheduling abortion appointments beyond September 30, two sources confirm to Autonomy News. Under the Congressional budget’s “defund” provision, organizations that provide abortions as of October 1, and received more than $800,000 in Medicaid reimbursements in fiscal year 2023, will be barred from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for one year … “We need to be crystal clear: The collapse in Wisconsin is the direct fallout of Donald Trump’s so-called ‘big, beautiful bill,’ a backdoor abortion ban playing out in real time,” [Megan] Jeyifo continued.
