“In passing the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the House of Representatives today took a very welcome and badly needed step to restore protections against gender discrimination in the workplace. This bill would undo the effects of a Supreme Court ruling that amounted to nothing less than an assault on the rights of working women. This measure deserves to become law very soon. We urge the Senate to act quickly, and President Bush to reconsider his threat to veto the measure. This legislation reasserts America’s commitment to fairness, and restores longstanding protections against discrimination.”
