McConnell’s Latest Plan to Repeal the ACA is Even More Devastating and Irresponsible, Ness Says

“Senate Leader Mitch McConnell’s wildly irresponsible proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without offering a replacement would wreak havoc on our health care system and cause grave and lasting harm to America’s women and families. Earlier this year, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that under this repeal-only bill, passed by the Senate in 2015, 32 million people would lose health coverage within 10 years.

The bill Leader McConnell now intends to advance is actually worse than the so-called Better Care Reconciliation Act and would be even more devastating for our nation. In addition to taking health coverage away from millions, it would immediately drive up costs, undo Medicaid expansion, defund Planned Parenthood, destabilize the insurance marketplace and wipe out critical consumer protections – while delivering indefensible tax cuts to the country’s wealthiest individuals and corporations.

This politically motivated move is destructive public policy. Women and families are fed up with the partisanship that is driving congressional leaders and their blatant disregard for our health, well-being and economic security.

It is past time Congress and the Trump Administration stop trying to sabotage the ACA and instead work collaboratively to protect and expand access to quality, affordable health care for all.”
