“We are excited about the medical breakthroughs that will be possible through increased use of genetic technologies. But such breakthroughs will only be realized if we have comprehensive federal standards to prohibit genetic discrimination in health insurance and the workplace.
Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee became the third and final House committee to unanimously pass the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, which will provide protection from genetic discrimination for all Americans.
Now that committees in both the House and Senate have passed the measure, we hope that Congressional leaders will quickly schedule floor votes. Americans have waited long enough for this important, bipartisan legislation to become law. We urge Congress and the White House to enact it without any further delay.”
