“The National Partnership applauds New York Attorney General Letitia James for taking legal action against the Trump Administration’s narrow implementation of the paid leave provisions in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). The Department of Labor’s regulations severely undermine the congressional intent of the law and will deny access to paid sick days and paid leave for millions of American workers – including the health care and emergency response workers who are on the frontlines of the crisis as well as small business employees who lose access to child care.
All workers must be able to take time off to recover from an illness or care for themselves or a family member during this crisis and beyond – including people of color who are least likely to have access to paid leave through their employer. We are pleased to see that the state of New York is leading the charge to preserve the intent of the law and are committed to working with other states and leaders in Congress to ensure all Americans have access to paid sick days and paid family and medical leave.”
