Press Statement
National Women’s Leader Pays Tribute to Ann Richards

“America lost a brilliant and inspiring leader today when Ann Richards succumbed to cancer. Ann was, at heart, an activist who fought for women’s and civil rights and devoted her life to promoting justice and equality. Her storied political career is well known, but her behind-the-scenes work to open doors for women and minorities was equally remarkable.

Ann was an inspiration to a generation of Americans who will remember not just her political accomplishments but also her brilliant oratorical skills and renowned sense of humor. All of us who worked closely with Ann will remember her with deep affection and savor the countless memories of her warmth, wit and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of women and families across America.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann’s family and her many friends, today and in the difficult days ahead.”
