Press Statement
National Women’s Health Leader Commends Bipartisan Senate Passage of S.5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act

“Today, a bipartisan majority in the Senate responded to the wishes of the American people by voting for the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which would allow federal funds to support stem cell research.

This legislation is crucial to the advancement of medical breakthroughs and is the only stem cell bill that would allow federal funds to support responsible medical research. It establishes strict ethical guidelines for the conduct of this research, while providing hope for a cure to tens of millions of Americans facing cancer, Alzheimer’s, spinal cord injuries, and other debilitating diseases.

This bill is especially important to women, who are most often the primary health care decision makers and caregivers for their families. The President’s previous veto has already delayed treatments and cures. We strongly urge the President to promptly sign this legislation and support medical advances that will help millions of Americans.”
