“The introduction of the Rebuild America Act in the U.S. House of Representatives today by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D – CT) advances a powerful legislative package that America’s working families urgently need. The bill is an opportunity for Congress to focus on restoring economic growth and rebuilding the middle class by creating good jobs that offer the family friendly supports all workers need. Its passage would be a boost to working families and our nation.

The Rebuild America Act addresses the real issues facing America’s working families. Right now, more than 44 million workers in the United States have to choose between their health and their families’ economic security because they can’t earn paid sick days, which is a basic workplace protection. The Rebuild America Act would guarantee workers this right, providing them with much-needed financial stability and peace of mind when it comes to their families’ health.

In addition to establishing the national paid sick days standard the country needs, the Rebuild America Act would raise the minimum wage, protect overtime pay and workers’ right to stand together, and fund investments in education, child care and infrastructure. It is comprehensive, common sense legislation that defines a clear set of priorities for the nation that will ultimately benefit families, businesses and our economy. All members of Congress should take note.
