“The reintroduction of the Schedules That Work Act in Congress today by Senators Elizabeth Warren (D – Mass.), Patty Murray (D – Wash.) and Chris Murphy (D – Conn.) and Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D – Conn.) and Bobby Scott (D – Va.) is an important step toward addressing the all-too-common employer practices that deny so many people in this country the economic security and stability they and their families urgently need. All members of Congress should now step up to support this bill.
The Schedules That Work Act would promote basic fairness in our nation’s workplaces. Right now, millions of workers across the country do not know from day to day or week to week whether they will be scheduled to work or what their paychecks will look like. Others show up to work only to be sent home with little to no pay. Women and low-wage workers are disproportionately affected by these practices, which harm not only workers and their families, but businesses and our economy too.
By giving workers more control over their schedules, encouraging employers to be clear about scheduling and hours expectations, and ensuring employers provide some wages when schedules are irregular or change on short notice, the Schedules That Work Act would provide much-needed predictability and financial stability. It is critical in the effort to combat unpredictable, unfair and unacceptable scheduling practices that have gone unchecked for too long.
The National Partnership commends the members of Congress who are championing this bill. The Schedules That Work Act would have a significantly positive impact on the ability of workers in this country to make ends meet and manage the demands of job and family. It is truly a common sense proposal that should have the support of every member of Congress.”
