The National Partnership for Women & Families announced Sharita Gruberg as the organization’s newest vice president. Sharita will lead the economic justice team in providing expertise and thought leadership in research, advocacy and policy work around many of the issue areas the organization has led on in its 50-year history, including:

• Fair and safe working conditions for pregnant and birthing people
• Economic justice for people to combat inequality fueled by racial, gender, and ethnic bias
• Equitable workplaces free of discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, or disability
• Equal pay for women
• Paid family and medical leave

Woven throughout Sharita’s 15 years of experience are numerous accomplishments. She most recently conducted successful advocacy campaigns, engaged with diverse stakeholders and led policy change at the Center for American Progress. There, she served as vice president for the think tank’s LGBTQI+ Research and Communications Project where she worked to expand legal and lived equality for LGBTQI+ people, particularly those living at the intersection of multiple identities.

“Sharita’s exceptional expertise as an attorney, leader, and advocate for communities of color and the LGBTQ community made her the best fit for this role,” said Jocelyn Frye, president of the National Partnership for Women & Families. “At this critical time, when we are pushing more and more for real equity for people from diverse, often historically underrepresented communities, it is vital to have a leader with Sharita’s experience, policy background, and multifaceted skillset.”

Throughout her career, Sharita has made it clear that the best way to advance economic justice policies that benefit women and families is to develop them through a lens of racial justice and with an awareness of the history that systemically has left out underrepresented communities.

“It’s impossible to advance economic justice for women and families without being intentional about policies that address the needs of all women — no matter their color, how they identify, or whether they have differing abilities,” said Gruberg. “I am thrilled to join an organization that intentionally seeks to create policies benefiting women from every intersection.”

Sharita earned her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, and her B.A. in Women’s Studies and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
