Study Examining Complaints of Pregnancy Discrimination In the U.S. to be Released at Event Commemorating 30th Anniversary of Pregnancy Discrimination Act
The National Partnership for Women & Families will release a new report that looks in-depth at pregnancy discrimination complaints filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) over the last twelve years at a symposium commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) on Wednesday, October 29th. The new study finds a sharp rise in complaints, and significant disparities by race, ethnicity and industry. It includes detailed recommendations to address pregnancy discrimination and enforce the PDA, which outlaws employment discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.
The new study will be released at a symposium co-hosted by the National Partnership for Women & Families and the EEOC:

Williams’ keynote address will be followed by two panel discussions. A panel on Pregnancy Discrimination Today: A Discussion of Recent Trends will be moderated by Kevin Russell, Partner at Howe & Russell, P.C. National Partnership for Women & Families General Counsel Jocelyn Frye will present the new report, and the EEOC’s Elizabeth Grossman and George Mason University’s Eden King will speak.
The second panel, A Glimpse into the Future: Pregnancy Discrimination Issues on the Horizon, will be moderated by Carolyn Wheeler, Assistant General Counsel, Appellate Services Division, Office of General Counsel, EEOC. It will feature: D.C. Employment Justice Center Executive Director Melvina Ford; Project on Attorney Retention Co-Director Cynthia Calvert; Corporate Voices for Working Families CEO Donna Klein; and Jocelyn Samuels, Vice President for Education and Employment Opportunities, National Women’s Law Center.
