Statement of Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 17, 2024 – The National Partnership for Women & Families today announced the addition of Jennifer M. Ng'andu to the Board of Directors and...
“The introduction of legislation to impose a nationwide ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy continues the callous, relentless attacks on women’s health. If it became law, this bill would jeopardize women’s health while injecting politics into personal decisions that are best made by women in consultation with their families and their doctors.
Proponents of this misguided legislation misrepresent the circumstances in which women access abortion care after 20 weeks of pregnancy. While each situation is different, many of these decisions are made under heartbreaking circumstances in which a much-wanted pregnancy is not viable. It’s a tremendous disservice to women to fail to acknowledge or dismiss these realities.
This legislation does not represent the nation’s priorities. Women, families, communities and the economy are still recovering from the effects of an unnecessary government shutdown. The Senate should soundly reject extremist initiatives like this one and instead prioritize legislation to improve the economic security of families.”
