The representation gap – even more significant for women of color – poses a huge barrier to ensuring policies that support state-level abortion access WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 28, 2023 – In a newly released report, Democracy & Abortion...
“Extremists in the House once again demonstrated disregard for women’s health and contempt for the sovereignty of the District of Columbia by voting to block the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act. This bill, passed by the D.C. City Council, would protect women in the District from employment discrimination related to their reproductive health care decisions. The resolution of disapproval the House of Representatives passed yesterday is outrageous and insulting, and President Obama was right to promise the veto it deserves.
Preventing the District of Columbia from protecting its citizens against discrimination is an egregious overstep and another instance of anti-women’s health extremists trying to use religion to discriminate.
We will continue fighting to ensure that all women can make their own health care decisions without facing barriers or discrimination, regardless of where they work or live.”
