“Not enough women and infants in the United States can access the high-quality health care they need and deserve. The Quality Care for Moms and Babies Act offers a much-needed opportunity to drive improvements in maternal and infant care that would help more mothers and babies thrive. We commend Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Representatives Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) and Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) for reintroducing it in Congress yesterday.

This legislation would support changes in how our nation delivers and pays for maternity care that would reduce unnecessary interventions, connect more women and infants with effective and safe care and use our health care dollars more wisely. Most importantly, this bill would help improve the health of women and babies around the country. 

With infant and maternal mortality rates in the United States exceeding those in many other nations and persistent maternal health disparities putting Black women and infants at particular risk, it is past time that Congress take action to improve the quality of care for both mothers and babies.

We are grateful to the lawmakers who continue to push for passage of this critical legislation and we urge both the House and Senate to pass the Quality Care for Moms and Babies Act without delay.”
