“Today, members of Congress stood up to yet another attack on abortion care and abortion providers by voting against S.311. This terrible legislation would have interfered with the crucial patient-provider relationship, required healthcare professionals to perform actions that may be medically and ethically inappropriate, and compromised physicians’ ability to provide compassionate, evidence-based care.
This bill is just the latest example of the relentless attacks on reproductive health care and underscores how far anti-abortion politicians and the Trump administration will go to enact laws and policies that restrict and undermine quality care in order to advance their ideological agenda.
We applaud the members of Congress that voted in opposition to this harmful bill. The National Partnership stands ready to work with members of Congress to advance legislation that keeps politics out of the exam room, leaves medical judgment to the medical experts and preserves women’s agency and autonomy over her own body.”
