We were thrilled and delighted to learn of Nancy Pelosi’s decision to retain her post as Democratic leader in the House of Representatives. That means that a fierce and highly effective advocate for family economic security, fair wages, family friendly workplaces and women’s health will almost certainly remain the highest ranking woman in Congress.

It is fitting, given the message voters sent last week, that this extraordinary leader who broke the glass ceiling when she became Speaker of the House continue as Democratic leader. We trust that House Democrats will give her the chance to build on her proud record of fighting for women, people of color, workers, immigrants, seniors, those who rely on the safety net and others whose rights and interests need protecting. Tough fights still lie ahead, on sequestration, entitlements, health care reform implementation, reproductive rights and more, and Nancy Pelosi is the leader we need, now more than ever.

The nation will be better off for her continuing service.”
