Abortion Providers Are Racing To Stay Ahead of the Courts

Mother Jones, May 13, 2026

Clinics, hotlines, and telehealth services say they’re ready to keep helping patients amid legal turmoil. The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision in the Louisiana and FDA case that may severely curtail nationwide access to the abortion pill mifepristone as early as Thursday. Abortion providers as well as the directors of some of the country’s largest abortion funds and support hotlines said they are prepared to address patients’ needs even if further restrictions on mifepristone are created. Many anticipate offering patients just misoprostol for their abortions. “Telehealth providers aren’t going away,” said April Lockley, medical director of the Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline. “Through all the confusion and potential legal changes, we’re all here to stay and support abortion seekers.”

Trump Administration’s New Website Sends Pregnant People to Faith-Based Centers

HuffPost, May 13, 2026

The Trump administration celebrated Mother’s Day by launching a new government website that directs pregnant people to anti-abortion pregnancy centers. The Department of Health and Human Services rolled out Moms.gov, which offers “resources, information and help for new and expecting mothers,” first flagged by Autonomy News reporter Garnet Henderson. The first resource listed is the 2,750 anti-abortion pregnancy centers, also known as crisis pregnancy centers, around the country. In order for a pregnant woman to find one near her, the site links out to Option Line, a call center that refers callers to anti-abortion centers, also known as crisis pregnancy centers. Option Line is operated by Heartbeat International, one of the biggest anti-abortion pregnancy center groups in the country.

The Exit of This Trump Administration Official Could Threaten Abortion Access Nationwide

The 19th, May 12, 2026

Food and Drug Commissioner Marty Makary’s planned resignation creates a new opening for anti-abortion activists to push for national restrictions on the procedure – and in particular, limit the availability of a key abortion drug. The move comes as anti-abortion groups became angry over what they viewed as his agency’s failure to curb access to the drug … A new commissioner – one willing to move abortion restrictions forward – could be a major victory for the anti-abortion movement. But some opponents still expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of the Trump administration, which many had hoped would take an aggressive stance in implementing national abortion restrictions, despite their unpopularity.

Alabama Jail Staff Didn’t Help When She Went Into Labor – Other Inmates Did, Lawsuit Says

NBC News, May 13, 2026

Tiffany McElroy, an incarcerated woman in the Houston County Jail, is suing staff and officials of the Alabama jail for neglecting McElroy as she gave birth in her cell. McElroy and other inmates repeatedly notified guards begging for help, and a fellow inmate ultimately helped McElroy as she pushed out a baby girl who wasn’t breathing. The two women worked to resuscitate the newborn until she began to cry. The lawsuit paints a picture of dangerous gaps in pregnancy and postpartum care that advocates say loom over those incarcerated in Alabama, which leads the nation in pregnancy criminalization cases.

Trump Has a Proposal To Expand Fertility Benefits. Here’s How That Would Work.

PBS News, May 12, 2026

President Donald Trump announced a new proposed rule Monday that would allow employers to provide standalone health insurance coverage for fertility benefits. The rule would create a supplemental insurance option employers could offer for in vitro fertilization services and other fertility treatments. Currently, most health insurance plans don’t cover IVF or related benefits. The rule, jointly announced by the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Treasury, follows a February executive order calling for policy recommendations to reduce the cost of IVF treatment. The proposed rule doesn’t go as far, though it aims to drive down costs of fertility treatments, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
