FDA Moves Ahead With Safety Study of Abortion Pill Mifepristone

CBS News, June 5, 2026

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is moving ahead with a safety study of the abortion pill mifepristone, a senior FDA official confirmed to CBS News, a step that could create a path for the Trump administration to restrict access to the medication. It will be a retrospective study of hundreds of thousands of cases, according to the official. The interim results of the study could be released in July, but the official noted the timing of the final results will depend on the design of a secondary analysis after the interim results come in.

Alabama AG Threatens To Prosecute Companies Selling Abortion Pills by Mail

AL.com, June 10, 2026

The Alabama Attorney General has issued cease and desist letters to companies that provide abortion pills through the mail. In a Monday press release Steve Marshall said six companies have been advertising and selling the pills in Alabama. The state’s anti-abortion law, which was enacted in 2022, effectively bans all methods of abortion, as well as the prescription or administration of drugs that cause abortions. Marshall sent cease and desist letters to Plan C, Southern Woven, Ybycmeds, Abortion Pills in Private, Red State Access, and Cambridge Reproductive Health Consultants.

Pregnant Girls Who Were Detained by ICE and Trapped in Texas, Where Abortion Is Banned, Are Missing

Jezebel, June 9, 2026

In February, it was reported that more than a dozen pregnant girls were being crammed, sometimes with their babies, into an ICE facility in San Benito, Texas. And according to a more recent report by The Guardian, no one knows where these girls – or their infants – are. While earlier reports about the facility suggested there were more than a dozen pregnant girls being held in San Benito, the numbers have suspiciously since fluctuated – from one attorney being told there were 11; to Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Tex.) being told in March that there were 17; to Dexter, at the time of her visit, being told there were seven. Dexter added that when she’d gone to the facility, she was blocked from speaking to them at all.

A Religious Hospital Denied Her a Life-Saving Drug During an Ectopic Pregnancy. She Lost Her Fertility

The Guardian, June 8, 2026

Harmonie Perrone, 28, knew she was probably having an ectopic pregnancy, and she knew exactly what she needed to do: seek medical care immediately, before life-threatening complications set in. But she was denied that care twice as she feared for her life – and, after the delay in care, she lost her fertility, she says in a new lawsuit filed Monday. All of this happened in Illinois, a top destination for abortion care, where reproductive rights are enshrined in law and medical providers are required to offer emergency care regardless of religious beliefs.

Telehealth Access to Abortion Pill Is Lifesaving for Domestic Violence Survivors, Some Say

Stateline, June 5, 2026

Researchers, advocates and survivors of domestic violence say access to telehealth prescriptions of mifepristone is vital for people in abusive relationships who need discreet abortion options. Elizabeth Ling, associate director of legal services at If/When/How, estimated the hotline receives between five and 10 calls a week from people who talk about experiencing intimate partner violence, whether it’s physical, emotional or some form of coercion. Telehealth access is threatened by an ongoing lawsuit by Louisiana challenging U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s 2023 rule allowing the medication to be dispensed without an in-person visit. “Abortion pills really are a lifeline for those who call and share their experiences with us,” Ling said.
