“The House Judiciary Committee continued its outrageous and irresponsible attack on women’s health today by passing legislation that would impose a 20-week ban on abortion nationwide. If it became law, this bill would jeopardize women’s health, impose criminal and civil penalties on doctors who provide abortion care, and put women at serious risk.
The debate that unfolded in the Committee today was deeply disturbing and a profound disservice to women. It was appalling that Committee members rejected amendments that would have guaranteed an exception to the ban in cases of rape or incest, or if the health of the woman was in danger. Equally disturbing were comments that minimized the trauma rape survivors experience.
The House should reject the 20-week abortion ban when it comes to the floor.”
