Recently passed anti-abortion laws in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio and Missouri are part of a dangerous trend by extremist politicians across the country who want to police women’s bodies. These politicians have spent years passing restrictions that undermine the provision of health care and put people’s lives in danger – from burdensome waiting periods to medically unnecessary hospital requirements to mandatory counseling, to laws banning abortion before many people even know they are pregnant. We say no more.

The National Partnership is fighting back, and we stand with our partner organizations and the thousands of activists that have shown up to protest. But we need Congress to fight back too. Today, champions on the Hill took a critical step by introducing the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), vital legislation that would remove barriers to abortion care and ensure that anti-abortion politicians cannot circumvent the law of the land. The Women’s Health Protection Act is the solution we need in order to stop the disingenuous regulations, outright bans, obstacles, and medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion care.

We know that abortion restrictions are the most harmful for already marginalized communities: low-income people, people of color, LGBTQ people, rural people and young people. Access to abortion care should not depend on the state you live in. We urge Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to ensure all people have access to abortion, everywhere in this country.
