Press Statement
Failure of Graham-Cassidy a ‘Huge Victory for Women’s Health and for Our Country’

“The failure of the damaging and dangerous Graham-Cassidy health care repeal bill in the Senate today is a huge victory for women’s health, for families and for the country. The bill would have created chaos in our health care system and caused grave and enduring harm to the health and economic security of millions of women and families. No responsible lawmaker should even have considered voting for it.

These assaults on the health care women and families rely on must end. It is past time that our leaders in Congress abandon their partisan agenda and put the country’s interests first, past time the administration stop trying to sabotage the Affordable Care Act, which has been the greatest advance for women’s health in a generation, and past time anti-women’s health politicians stop attacking Planned Parenthood, an essential health care provider for millions of people.

We urge lawmakers to act in a bipartisan way to strengthen the health insurance marketplace and ensure that every person in this country has access to affordable, high-quality care, including birth control and abortion care.

We strongly encourage lawmakers to shift their attention to other pressing priorities, including eliminating the many barriers to health care that cause lasting disparities, rooting out discrimination of all kinds and making our country more fair and family friendly.”
