Press Statement
New Overtime Rule Misses the Mark, Leaves Millions Behind

“It has been three decades since regulations governing overtime pay have been updated in any meaningful way. The Trump administration’s proposed rule to increase the salary threshold under which workers must receive overtime from $23,660 to $35,308 falls far short of the positive impact of the rule proposed by the previous administration in 2016.

The Obama-era Department of Labor rule, which was unjustly blocked by a federal judge engaging in appalling judicial overreach, would have extended overtime eligibility to 4.9 million additional workers. The long overdue rule would have helped to restore fairness to our workplaces and made a significant difference for working women, whose wages support their families and contribute to our economy.

This watered down protection is yet another example of the Trump administration siding with special interests over working people. Without fair wage and hour protections, working people, women and families, and our entire country and economy will lose.”
