“Yesterday the Trump Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a callous attack on the fundamental American value that religion should not be used to discriminate against others. The “refusal rule” is a broad and harmful rule that allows individuals and entities to use their religious beliefs to refuse to provide patient care. Women seeking reproductive health care or suffering from miscarriages could be turned away, and transgender patients could be refused medical care. Allowing medical professionals to deny patients lifesaving care based on personal beliefs is unacceptable.
Nobody should face discrimination when they are trying to access medical care. Our nation’s women and families deserve better than this.”
